Specialized Roval Alpinist CLX III Road Wheel Description: The Roval Alpinist CLX III Road Wheel is a super-light wheel engineered for anyone looking to go uphill as fast as possible. A 33mm deep, hooked tubeless ready rim has the width to support modern high volume road tires for optimal cornering performance and grip, and are compatible with virtually any tubed type or tubeless ready road tire. These lightweight and aerodynamic hoops roll around specially designed low flange straight pull style hubs stuffed with DT Swiss 180 EXP internals, Sinc ceramic bearings, and a fast engaging 36 tooth freehub design in the rear wheel that all combine to minimize rolling resistance with great durability and minimal maintenance. These hubs also are machined to accept centerlock-style disc rotors for added control on tricky descents, and the rear wheel will have a SRAM XDR freehub installed and include a Shimano HG freehub for 11/12 speed road cassettes and the necessary end caps for faster and easier installation when changing the wheel between bikes or changing out the drivetrain. While the rim and hubs are certainly light and exhibit outstanding performance, Specialized and Roval worked with the specialists at ARRIS to develop unique composite and titanium spokes that take the performance of these wheels to the next level. Not only do these spokes weigh less than the stainless steel spokes typically found in high end road wheels, which in itself results in significantly less rotating weight that can be felt when grinding uphill or accelerating out of corners, these spokes have significantly higher tensile strength so they can be laced into the wheel with higher spoke tensions to create a wheel with outstanding lateral stiffness and very snappy acceleration. One additional benefit of the combination of a composite rim and composite spokes is that they will dampen shock and vibrations transmitted from rough road surfaces, which results in a smoother ride and less rider fatigue.
